The "Regulations on Labelling of Packaged Edible Vinegar" were announced on June 6, 2017, and officially came into effect on July 1, 2018 (based on the production date).

The regulation requires that prepared vinegar made from brewed vinegar and other ingredients should clearly indicate the word "prepared" on the packaging.
Seasoning liquids made by adding sugars, acidulants, flavoring agents and salt to a diluted solution of acetic acid or glacial acetic acid, or synthetic vinegar made by adding brewed vinegar to this seasoning liquid, should be clearly labeled with the word "synthetic" on the packaging.

This regulation will be implemented from July 1, 2018 (based on the product manufacturing date). From that date, any prepared vinegar or synthetic vinegar that does not comply with the regulations by labeling with the words "prepared" or "synthetic" will be subject to penalties.
Violations involving incomplete labeling may be subject to a fine of NT$30,000 to NT$3,000,000; furthermore, synthetic vinegar is made from diluted acetic acid or glacial acetic acid.
If the label claims to be brewed, it is considered false labeling and could be subject to a fine of up to NT$4 million.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reminds consumers that food product names should accurately reflect the nature of the food, and food businesses should truthfully label the ingredients used and provide clear and accurate information for consumers to use when making purchases.
